The Slip Dress

Hope you all have been having a great week!  We've been having gorgeous weather the last few days, and it has put me in a great mood!
Dress:  Ann Taylor Petites (Available here)
In fact, the cooler weather is making me think more and more about fall style!  Fall fashion is truly the best!  St. Louis Fashion Week is just around the corner, and I'm always excited to explore fall trends.

For today's look, I was playing around with styling this silky slip dress I recently picked up from Ann Taylor.  I'm imagining so many ways to style this simple LBD for fall!

Jacket:  The Limited (old)
Boots:  Target (Available here)
I haven't worn this dress out yet, and I'm reconsidering size.  Here, I'm wearing the Petite X-Large, and it's a little too big and too long.  The Petite Large was a tad small for the style of the dress. I recently tried a large in the "average" sizing and got a much better fit in the body, so I plan on returning this one.  Typically, average sizes run a little bigger than petite sizes, and the average size provides the in-between fit that I need.  The dress has adjustable straps, and shortening the hem should be an easy fix.
Pendant:  Ixora Boutique (Similar here)
Bracelet:  LOFT (Available here)
Even though the fit on the dress isn't quite right just yet, I'm still loving it.  I've long been a fan of slip dresses  In college in the mid-90s, I wore a lot of them.  This one has such a slinky 90s minimalist feel that I really love.

Here, the yellow jacket and wooden clutch add texture and interest to the outfit.  To give the dress a little edge, I added mixed metallic accessories and finished the look off with open-toe booties.

Clutch:  Cameo de Bore (Available here)
Rings:  Torrid (Available here and here)
While following trends is not very important to me (I prefer to be a trendsetter, thank you very much ;-)), I do enjoy studying trends and usually find myself incorporating a few of them into my wardrobe each season.  Bright colors is one of the coming fall season's major color trends, so this yellow faux leather jacket will be right on point!
Do you like a minimalist look or do you prefer more embellishment?  Would you wear a slip dress?

What's your favorite season for fashion?

Sun & Shades

I've been feeling a bit under the weather the last few days, so I haven't had a chance to snap any new outfit pics.

I had never posted these pics, and not feeling well, it seemed like the perfect time for a sunny yellow jacket!  :-)

Dress:  eShakti (Currently out of stock; see here)
Jacket:  The Limited
The last time I featured my spectacle print dress, I noted that I had just realized it was navy instead of black.  I wish this jacket were a little less boxy with this dress, but I really like how the yellow plays up the navy.

This jacket is certainly too hot for summertime in the Midwest, but for those of you who have chillier summers, or at least cooler summer nights, a faux leather jacket can be a great option.

Booties:  Target (Available here)

Bracelet:  LOFT
Not too long ago, I was not a big fan of navy and yellow, but in the last two years, this combination has really started to grow on me.  It has a nice contrast, and I love how the warmth of the yellow brings out the blue.

Purse:  The Limited

Are you a fan of combining yellow and navy?

Citrus and Art (Pop)

Happy Thursday everyone!

Hope the week has been treating you well!  I've been a busy bee with work and my son's birthday.  My son turned ten yesterday - double digits are hitting this mama a little hard! LOL

Earlier this week, I celebrated a warm day (it's cold again) with some spring touches to my work clothes.

Blouse:  eShakti (sold out on-line)
Satchel:  Target (Available here)
Jacket:  The Limited (old)
Pants:  The Limited (Similar here)
A lemon yellow faux leather jacket feels fresh and springy while the pop art print blouse is right on trend.  Pop art prints were big on spring runways, and I loved the pretty mix of colors on this blouse.

I recently nabbed this blouse from eShakti.  I've known about the site for some time, but never ordered anything from there.  I recently decided to take the plunge, and now I'm addicted!

EShakti offers custom fit clothes at a very reasonable price.  For curvy petites, this web site is a dream!  The first custom pieces I ordered were a little large, and eShakti actually reimbursed me with store credit for alterations costs at my local tailor!  Those pieces will be featured on the blog soon, but today I wanted to show off this top that I got with part of my credit.  The fit was perfect right out of the box!

Hello Yellow

Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Skirt: Target (Available here)
Jacket:  The Limited (Available here)
For work yesterday, I had fun styling my A-line print skirt with a black bow-front blouse and citrine yellow faux leather jacket.
Blouse:  Old Navy (old)
Necklace:  Express (old)
I love how the yellow jacket brings out the hints of yellow in the skirt.
Bag:  The Limited (old)
Earrings:  The Limited (Available here)
The bow-front blouse and hemline is conservative enough for the office, but the print of the skirt and strappy heels gives the look a more youthful edge.
Shoes:  Target (old)
I'm actually considering hemming this skirt.  Sometimes, it takes a few wears of a garment before I decide it needs alterations.  Due to the volume of this skirt, I think cutting off an inch or so would be more proportionate.

What do you think?  Do you get many clothing items altered?  How do you decide the "best" fit?
