Skirt Week 2: 50s Flair

Skirt Week continues tonight with my laser cut midi skirt.
Skirt:  Eloquii (Available here)
The first time I wore this skirt I mentioned that I was thinking about hemming it to more of a true midi length.  My tailor did a fabulous job in making this skirt feel like it was made for me.
Blouse:  The Limited (Available here)
Sandals:  Payless (old)
Clutch:  The Limited
For work recently, I decided to style this skirt with a retro vibe, playing up the classic 50s shape.  I paired the skirt with a button down-top and low-heeled black sandals.  The yellow clutch adds a pop of color and a slightly more modern vibe.
Glasses:  Valentino
Earrings:  Etsy, Francesca's
Ring:  Francesca's
The lace print glasses have a bit of a cat eye shape which worked well with the retro feel of the look. The lace print on the glasses also perfectly complemented the skirt.
I really like how the shape of fuller midi skirts like this work with my shape.  This retro style definitely works well with curves.  Since my upper half is larger than my bottom half, the fuller skirt also helps balance me out.

All that said, this is a style that I prefer to only wear on occasion.  I felt pretty in this outfit, but I generally prefer to style my pieces in a more modern way.  I plan to wear a longer crop top and booties with this skirt next for more of a modern fun and flirty style that feels more "me."

Are you a fan of full midi skirts like this style?

Garden Party

I mentioned in yesterday's post that I have had a tendency lately of opting for clothes that aren't readily suitable for work.
Dress:  ASOS (Available here)
Such is the case with today's dress.

I've always loved slip dresses. I spent a good part of the 90s in a couple of my favorite slip dresses. This one actually looks like a vintage slip but also has some on-trend details like blue and yellow (two big color trends for spring) and white lace/sheer details.  It was instant love when I saw it online.  The clearance price totally sweetened the deal!

Booties:  Target
Clutch:  The Limited
Bracelet:  Paperdolls Boutique
When I got the dress and tried it on, I wasn't so sure.  Did it look too much like a pretty night gown? Was it vintage cool or simply old-fashioned?
I am trying very hard to be more thoughtful with my purchases, so I spent some time mulling it over. In the end, I decided it was  a keeper.  My apprehension was simply that it was different than something I would normally choose.  In the end, the fact that I don't have anything else like it in my closet was actually a major draw.
Earrings:  The Limited
I will be wearing this for date nights, fashion events, and the like.  I'll definitely be paring it with my cobalt moto jacket. And should I ever get invited to a garden party, I would wear it to that too! Ha, ha!

As for today's photos, the weather wasn't being very cooperative - it was pouring down rain during most of these pics.  That said, the breeze was amazing.  Have I said how much I love spring?  :-)
Would you wear a slip dress?  How would you style a piece like this?

Fall Double Feature: Blooms on Black

Have you been keeping up with my fall fashion series in collaboration with fellow petite curvy blogger, Irene from Petite Plus, Meow!?

Irene and I continue our Fall Double Feature today with Blooms on Black!
Dress:  LOFT Petites (Available here)
Purse:  The Limited
Black floral prints are a huge part of the dark glamour trend for fall.

I really enjoy dark florals, and today, I had fun creating a luxe bohemian look.  This dress reminds me of dresses from the 1970s.  So, I decided to play up that 70s vibe by adding a velvet blazer, fringe bag, and a felt floppy hat.

Can you believe I got this hat the summer before last...at Wal-mart...for only $1.00?!!
Blazer:  New  York & Company
Boots:  Target (Available here)
This look is definitely a little outside of my normal style, but I absolutely love it.
Hat:  Wal-Mart
Paired with opaque black tights and boots, it will work well into winter.

Belt:  Torrid
While I chose a look with a slightly bohemian vibe, Irene is more ladies-who-lunch with a sophisticated floral blouse, pearl necklace, pencil skirt and classic peep-toe pumps.

Will you be adding any dark floral pieces in your wardrobe this fall?
