Dress Week 3: Leopard for Spring

Dress Week continues today with a leopard print trapeze dress.
Dress:  Eva Mendes for New York & Company
I always think of leopard print and other cat prints as more for autumn and winter; however, there is no real reason that they should just be for the cooler seasons.

Safari-inspired clothing and accessories are back for spring, so I decided to take this big cat print into that direction by adding a camel messenger bag and neutral booties.
Booties:  Target (Available here)
Bag:  The Limited (old)
Bracelets:  The Limited
I kept accessories fairly minimal adding a couple bangles and an orange beaded necklace with gold coins for just the tiniest pop of color.

I love the easy breezy feel of this look - I think it's perfect for the more laid-back vibe of spring and summer!
Necklace:  The Limited

  1. You are absolutely right.... I think of leopard print for fall and winter, but this dress is so breezy and light looking that the print looks great for spring! I love trapeze dresses.
I just realized I have no idea how you get those cute booties on... do they have a zip in the back? Or a lot of elastic? They look so form-fitting with a tiny ankle.

  2. Super cute dress! Like you said, the cutout updates this 1950's cut. I love the polka dot! Have you been happy with eShakti mostly? I know back when they started their fabrics tended to get VERY wrinkly (I think they only used cottons), but I've seen lots of fabric choices now.

  3. Love the look. I'm pretty much a fan of leopard regardless of the season.

  4. I think animal print can be any season, some people even think of it as a neutral, I'm not sure about that. But I definitely think you could wear animal print any season, and your dress is great from spring because it's light and flowy!

  5. Oh this is such a cute dress, it reminds me of one of the dresses from forever 21+ that has a cut out in the same spot but the style is a little different. I think you styled it really cute with the gold necklace and the lace clutch. If I were to wear this I probably dress it down with flats and a cardigan. :)

  6. Thanks Nina! I like leopard print accessories/shoes for any season, but leopard print clothes for spring and summer is still growing on me. I think the lightness of this dress make it more warm weather appropriate though!

  8. I love the shape of this dress - I've always loved trapeze dresses but never wore them because they can look a little nightgown-y on me if I'm not careful!

  9. I'm glad someone agrees with me about leopard print, but it's growing on me for warm weather!

The booties have a thick strap that goes around the back and snaps on the side. They can be a little tricky sometimes, but they're getting easier the more I wear them.

  10. Thank you! I have been mostly happy with eShakti. I've had a few issues with fit here and there, but they have been very helpful with those. Most of the pieces I have are cotton, which does wrinkle a lot, but I haven't noticed a huge problem while wearing them. The biggest issue with maintenance is after washing - they definitely aren't wash and wear. Everything has to be ironed after washing

  11. I was really liking that one that Forever 21 had in purple and green, but I missed out on it. While I wish this was a color (I have so much black already), I like the straps on it and the bust details quite a bit.

Flats and a cardigan would be cute. I'm always scared to wear a dress this length with flats for fear of looking even shorter, but I'm trying to start wearing more comfy shoes so that might be a good option for this dress.

  12. Where the cutouts are placed can vastly affect its style. I am not too fond of the minute cutout on this dress, but the dress itself is beautiful. The pumps are also charming. Very nice one here.

  13. Lioness of the fashion jungle! You certainly roar loudly with style here. Fabulous dress along with the peep-toe booties. And of course... pretty smile and hairstyle. Looking great!

  14. Thanks John! I wish the cutout was a wee bit larger, but overall, I'm quite happy with this dress!
