The weather has been absolutely gorgeous lately, sunny and warm with just enough breeze. Such beautiful weather makes me happy. It also makes me reach for easy and comfortable clothes.

My kids have been asking to be on the blog numerous times, but I've always been somewhat reluctant to do so. With it being Mother's Day weekend, I decided to give each of the kids a feature. Tonight, I'm starting with Gabriel.
Gabe's outfit: Kohl's |
There is a special bond between mothers and their sons, and I take the responsibility of raising a boy very seriously.
In a patriarchal culture, I believe that it's our job as parents to teach our sons to reject inequality and to encourage feelings of self-worth that empower them to make wise and brave decisions. I believe it is our job to give our sons the tools to reject the system of inequality that not only gives them unfair advantage but that also limits their own growth and development as "whole" people.
I've always encouraged Gabe to be who he is and to freely exhibit both the qualities that are gendered masculine in our culture but also those that are gendered feminine. I worry everyday, as I'm sure most mothers (parents) do, that I'm not doing a good enough job, but I hope that my efforts will be successful.
Hope all you mothers have a wonderful Mother's Day!!!! See you tomorrow!!
Love this look. You can't beat the old hippy out of some of us. LOL Gabriel is sure a cutie pie!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla!! I'm too young to really be a hippie, but I do embrace a lot of that spirit!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I'm not. LOLOL!!!! I have always loved the look and I think it looks good on anybody as a great fun style.
ReplyDeleteA little bit country, a little bit rock-n-roll, and a lot of awesome. The dress here is lovely. The sandals, scarf, and fringed handbag add edge to an otherwise easy outfit. Your motherly insight is also vastly appreciated here. Great post!

ReplyDeleteThanks Lizzy! I have to say...I make gorgeous babies! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks John!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL!! It's an easy look - I tend to get a little more bohemian in the summer when I just want to be relaxed but still want some style!
ReplyDeleteGreat kid, great photographer, great outfit!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! He really is a great kid!!
ReplyDeleteAww very cute and he is a great photographer! I love this outfit it's seems so light and easy to wear for the warmer weather and I like how you styled it with the black and white accents, I'm always a sucker for black and white. I really like the fringe bag it's so fun.

Thanks Nina! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this dress! I purchased the pink print version and it's quickly become my new favorite! I pair with a wide brown belt because I feel like I need more "waist definition" than the dress offers on it's own. Just ordered another one last week and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Amy! Isn't eShakti just the most genius company ever!?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it with a belt yet, but I definitely plan to do so soon. You're right - a belt definitely shows off shape better and provides waist definition.
