Saint Louis Fashion Week: My Experience, My Fashion

I hope you all enjoyed my coverage of Saint Louis Fashion Week!  You can catch up with those posts here and here.

Today, I wanted to wrap up by talking a bit about my own personal experience with STLFW, including, of course, what I wore!!

Dress:  eShakti custom
I'm always wowed by the talent during the emerging Designer Competition, and this year was no exception.  I grew up going to St. Louis Union Station to shop, and it makes an amazing venue for a fashion show!

It's always hard for me to decide what to wear to a fashion show - I want to look stylish and wear something that makes me feel great, but I also want to be comfortable, not knowing if I'll be doing a lot of standing or walking.  Since I also had to work the day of this show, I needed something that could transition well from day to evening to minimize what I would have to cart along with me to work.  I love the color and print of this dress, so for the show, I added a boyfriend blazer and quirky clutch.

Blazer:  Eloquii (Available here)
After the show, I enjoyed spending a few moments catching up with some of the other St. Louis area bloggers...even if I do totally look like I'm photobombing here.  Ha, ha!!

Clutch:  Torrid
Ring:  The Limited
Earrings:  Ixora Boutique
Because of a super busy work schedule, I wasn't able to partake in as many of the events of STLFW that I would have liked, but I was really happy that I got to make it out to the Fantich&Young opening at Projects+Gallery

The show was really impressive, and it's nice to get out and discover new places in St. Louis.  I don't go out much - mostly work and home.  I'm a homebody at heart, but STLFW always pushes me to explore my corner of the world a little more!

Dress:  eShakti custom
Boots:  Betseyville at Target (Available here)
Clutch:  Torrid
For this event, I went with an LBD - a trench style dress in a custom fit from eShakti.  I added velvet platform boots and a perfume bottle clutch as accessories.
Earrings:  The Limited
For the very last night of STLFW, the Wrap Party, we went to St. Louis Ballpark Village.  I wore my lace Boleyn dress from Chubby Cartwheels, styled similarly to how I previously featured it on the blog.  After having a few drinks and enjoying the piano bar at Howl at the Moon, the hubby and I headed over to The Drunken Fish for some dinner.  As I'm not really into sports (I know...downright blasphemous in Cardinals nation), I had never been to Ballpark Village, but I also realized what a fun entertainment complex it could be.

Hope you enjoyed my coverage of STLFW.  Saint Louis has an impressive and growing fashion scene, and it's exciting to get to share it with you!

Special thanks to the Midwest Influencer Network and Explore Saint Louis for the opportunity to take part in #STLFW as a blogger!!

Saint Louis Fashion Week Recap, Part 1: Caleres Emerging Designer Competition

First, let me apologize for being away from the blog for a while.  I've been out living life, working a lot, and spending time visiting family.  Daylight Savings Time has taken more of a toll on me that I expected.  Seriously, this 5 pm darkness is such a drag, and I still haven't gotten on-track with only being able to take blog photos on the weekends.

But, I am back today with some coverage of Saint Louis Fashion Week!
The week included several fashion shows, but the biggest was the Caleres Emerging Designer Competition held at the historic St. Louis Union Station.  Over 1200 people attended this show, including the amazing businesswoman and fashion icon, Iris Apfel!  I was so excited to be in the same room as this QUEEN!

The fashion show featured the five finalists in a national design competition with the winner receiving an impressive $25,000 prize from the Saint Louis Fashion Fund.  Katherine Polk of Houghton took this year's prize with her crowd-pleasing collection.

First up was Jordana Warmflash of NOVIS.  I loved the fun and unique prints and smart use of color.  I found her collection to be one of the most wearable and practical for everyday life and appreciated the interesting cuts, fabric selection, and weaving technique.  While I adored individual pieces from all of the collections, NOVIS showed my favorite collection of the night.
Next up was Azede Jean-Pierre.  Since I love classic pieces with a modern twist and generally prefer to wear neutrals, I was a big fan of this collection.  The denim jumpsuit look was my favorite from this collection, but I really wanted to snag all the blazers.  Working in a business casual office setting, I was drawn to the sophisticated, laid-back twist on suiting.  The tie sleeves on the navy blazer is such a cool touch.
Julie Haus and Jason Alkire of Haus Alkire presented a collection that felt part tropical vacation, part urban day wear.  My favorite pieces from the collection were the tie-dye print maxi dresses and the leather culottes that I would pair for fall with high boots, a crop top, and wool jacket.
Katherine Polk of Houghton, the winner of the night, presented a beautiful, wearable collection of frothy (mostly white) dresses and pretty lace in a range of silhouettes. My favorite look from her collection was the simple lace slip dress with the tan belt.  I would add a black blazer and booties to this look to rock it in pretty much any season!
The last collection of the night was the architectural collection from Eckhaus Latta designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta.  This collection included a variety of pretty colors, but the artistic draping and cutouts definitely stole the show.  My favorite look from this collection was the sage mini-dress with its interesting layered effect.
All in all, the show was really amazing, and I loved how individual each collection's point of view was.  As beautiful as these clothes are, I'm holding out for a plus-size collection to make it to the competition next year.  It would be AMAZING to see more body diversity on the runway! Hint, hint!  #plussizeplease

Which collection was your favorite?

St. Louis VIP Blogger Lounge + Two Fall Casual Looks

Jeez,  I'm so behind in posting this!  Between attending some of the St. Louis Fashion Week events, several family members' birthdays, my day job, and an upper respiratory infection, I haven't felt too much like blogging or even posing for pics.

That said, I have so much I want to share!

The Friday before last, I attended the Well Dressed Midwest VIP Blogger Lounge as part of St. Louis Fashion Week.  Local vendors were out showcasing their wares, and it was a great opportunity to introduce ourselves to various brands as well as meet up with other bloggers.
Jeans:  The Limited Petites (Similar here)
DJ TrashTalk provided us with tunes, while guests were treated to yummy flatbread pizzas, desserts, and other fare by Scape American Bistro (hosts for the event).

Sara's Social Booth made for fun photo ops, like this one with fellow St. Louis blogger, Michelle of Creature Type.  Seriously, if you don't know her blog, check it out.  She's one of the good ones, y'all.

Guests had the opportunity to try out flash tattoos like the one on my wrist here.

The Hive Alton
Zettie's Confections
While I had fun checking out the clothing and food vendors, I was most intrigued by the shoes!
Vogue Footwear and Lookie Lou - a vegan shoes company, left me with a serious desire to dress up my tootsies!
The Blogger Lounge was presented by Well Dressed Midwest, an amazing network for Midwestern bloggers to meet and connect with each other and various brands.

Guests were treated to free t-shirts, which I'm wearing here today.
Blazer:  The Limited (Similar here)

Boots:  Payless (old)
Bracelets:  Target, The Limited, Ann Taylor
I've been remarking to myself and others that I need to build a more casual wardrobe that works well for weekends running around with the kiddos but that still feels stylish and like "me."
Purse:  The Limited
Ring:  Ann Taylor
Necklace:  Torrid
The Blogger Lounge helped me twice in that endeavor.
Leggings:  c/o Glik's (Available here)
In addition to these nifty t-shirts, I received a free pair of fleece lined leggings from Glik's.

Glik's is a local chain store, headquartered in nearby Granite City, Illinois.  I grew up occasionally shopping at Glik's as a kid, but as an adult, I no longer associated it with hip fashion.
Sweater:  The Limited (Available here)
To my surprise, I learned that several of the stores have a boutique atmosphere and offer brands like Stuart Weitzman.
Rings:  Torrid
Bracelet:  New York & Company
Now, about those fleece lined leggings...they are so incredibly soft and comfortable..  I was very skeptical when I learned that they were one size fits all.  While they likely wouldn't work for anyone over a size 18 (and hence, are NOT one size fits all), they have incredible stretch which makes them an extremely comfortable fit for me as a size 12.  The fleece lining makes them warm for fall, while also providing some heft so that these are more pants than tights.

I've always been a proponent that leggings are pants, but ONLY if worn appropriately - with shirts that cover crotch/bottom and if in a truly opaque fabric, hopefully with some amount of weight (ponte knit, for example).

These leggings are perfection.  I even wore them to a dinner out to celebrate the birthday of one of my sisters.
Do you consider leggings to be pants?

St. Louis Fashion Week - Blogger Nominations

Hope you're all having a great evening.  I have fall fashion on the brain and am loving all the fall fashion on Style.com and in the glossies.

In local fashion news, St. Louis Fashion Week is right around the corner!  I've been to a few Fashion Week events but missed the shows last fall and spring.

Since Fall is this fashionista's favorite season - for fashion and everything else - I am definitely looking forward to attending to see what talented local designers have to offer!

I'm also looking forward to sharing the shows with you!

If you're so inclined, please consider nominating me for the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards honoring St. Louis area bloggers.
