Blue Streak

Happy Friday!!!  This weekend will be the first time in a while that I have had to relax, so I intend to really enjoy it, and by enjoy it, I mean do absolutely nothing!
Dress:  ASOS (Available here)
Today, I close out this colorful week with the color blue.  Like green, blue is one of my favorite colors to wear.  I tend to gravitate towards blues quite a bit without even realizing that I'm doing it.
Trench:  Boohoo Plus (Available here)
I was really drawn to this slip dress from ASOS.  It was a perfect match with my strappy blue heels.  I decided to add a cranberry-colored trench and ivory faux fur clutch for a red, white, and blue look with a bit of a fall feel.
Clutch: New Look
Shoes:  Chelsea & Zoe at Kohl's (No longer available)
Glasses:  Firmoo.com
Cobalt and indigo blues are probably my favorite shades of blue to wear, but really I love just about any shade from pale blue to deep navy.

Color and Confidence 2: True Blue with eShakti

Happy Sunday!

Today, I'm singing the blues in a jumpsuit from eShakti.  I love the drapey fit and lightweight fabric of this piece.  The navy color is super versatile, and the tonal herringbone pattern adds visual interest.

Jumpsuit:  c/o eShakti (Available here)
EShakti reached out to me some time ago about trying out their new pants offerings. We had a few hang-ups and re-orders before I finally ended up with this jumpsuit, but I'm really happy with the choice.  It's relaxed and chic at the same time, and I have already imagined a few different styling options for this piece.

Cuff:  The Limited
With a focus on blue today, I've got lots of navy and cobalt, my favorite shades of blue to wear.  Navy is really the only "color" of the rainbow that is also a neutral, so it's like getting the best of both worlds when I wear it.  My favorite way to wear navy is paired with black, as I've done here today, for a subtle contrast.
Earrings:  Target
Silver jewelry adds a brightness and soft contrast to the look.

Fall Double Feature: Blue Hues

Does cooler weather make you blue?

I love fall, but winters in the Midwest can be fairly harsh.  They can make a gal like me feel very down.

Well, this year, the color palette for fall and winter can match that mood.  Virtually every shade of blue was seen on fall runways, and as I previously discussed, bright cobalt and royal blue have been named by Pantone as two of the trendiest colors for fall 2014.
Skirt:  Outback Red by The Limited (Available here)
Jacket:  The Limited (Available here)
But blue often unfairly gets associated only with feeling down or depressed when many blues are calming or vibrant or even energetic.  With almost every shade of blue out there this fall, you can create a look that suits any mood!
Tank:  LOFT Petites
Today, Irene of Petite Plus, Meow! and I continue our series on fall trends by trying out some popular blue shades for fall - Irene is in bright cobalt (see below), while I'm in more subdued navy.

Neither of our looks will get you through winter (unless you are lucky enough to have very mild winters), but they are PERFECT for fall!!
Pearl bracelet:  New York & Company
This look isn't too dissimilar from the red maxi skirt look I featured here.  In fact, it's the same skirt - I nabbed this color on an end-of-summer clearance.

It's a formula of which I am particular fond.

Maxi skirt + tank + moto jacket = Casual Cool Happiness :-)

Earrings:  The Limited
I added some of my favorite fall neutrals - ivory and caramel - to my navy maxi skirt for a laid-back look.  I would wear this look for a relaxed evening out, a casual Friday at work, or shopping on weekends if I felt like getting a bit more dressed up.

A large tote and gold and pearl bracelets complete the look.
Tote:  The Limited
Bangles:  Target and Ann Taylor (Available here)
While my look is more casual and laid-back, Irene oomphs up the sex appeal, with a printed body con dress in bright cobalt.  Doesn't she look A-MA-ZING?!

Singin' the Blues: Black and Navy

Singin' the Blues Week wraps up with one of my favorite color combinations - black and navy!
Pants:  The Limited (Similar here)
Jacket:  The Limited (Available here)
I'll wear just about any shade of navy with black, but the lighter shade of this top works best with black.
Blouse:  Outback Red by The Limited
Boots:  Payless (old)
Satchel:  The Limited
Gold jewelry adds a touch of lightness to this dark outfit (silver would work well too).

Singin' the Blues: Cobalt and Cognac

Blue was a huge trend on fall runways, and cobalt was everywhere!

I've always considered green my favorite color since early high school, but in the last few years, I think cobalt has replaced it.  It is such a vibrant color, and it looks amazing with so many other colors.
Dress:  Eva Mendes for New York & Company (Available here)
Blazer:  New York & Company (old) (Similar here)
Shoes:  Target (old)

For some reason, I usually pair this particular blazer with black and white.  I don't wear a lot of browns, and I never really considered mixing cognac with cobalt, but I decided to give it a try.

I'll admit that I prefer cobalt with black, white, or grey (and a ton of other colors), but I don't mind this color mix and it's nice to try something new once in a while.
Tote:  Target (5+ years old)
Bracelets:  The Limited (Available here)
I love trapeze dresses, but they are super tricky to wear if you're curvy and petite.  The longer length blazer helps tone down some of the volume of the dress, making it a little more work-appropriate as well as a little more flattering.
Necklaces:  The Limited and Target (Available in silver here and available here)

Wedged Between...

I can't decide how I feel about today's outfit.  I like each piece individually, but I'm not sure how well all of the pieces blend together as a cohesive look.
Skirt:  Torrid (old)
Blazer:  New York & Company (Similar here)

Maybe it's me, but the outfit seems a little disjointed?  The top and blazer say business, but the skirt and boots say casual.  The boots say fall, but the blouse and skirt in this particular outfit read a little more summer to me.
Tank:  Old Navy Petites (Similar here)
Blouse:  The Limited (Available here)
Boots:  Target (Similar here)
Clutch:  Target

Any one of these pieces could work in any season.  Any one of these pieces could go casual.  Somehow, together, the individual pieces seem a little mis-matched.
Bracelets:  The Limited

Denim Week: Slouchy Blues

Hi everyone!  Denim Week continues today with a cropped denim jacket.
Denim jacket:  The Limited (Similar here)
Pants:  Outback Red by The Limited (Available here)

Purse:  Target (Similar here)
Tank:  Target
I grabbed this denim jacket as a quick casual topper to some super comfy weekend pieces.

The sporty pajama-like pants are the ultimate in comfort.  They look more stylish with heels, but since we were running around with the kids, I paired them with flat gladiator sandals for comfort.

Pewter and silver accents keep the relaxed blues and greens from looking too bedtime-ready.  The "evil eye" ring adds a fun touch.
Ring:  Earthbound Trading Company
Bracelet (and matching necklace in other photos):  Target
Sandals:  Target Kids' Department
The baggy pants and cropped jacket created a boxier shape than I would have liked, but at the end of the day, I was so comfortable that it was only a minor grievance for me.

Do you like denim jackets? Pajama-style pants?

Make It Pop

Happy Saturday, everyone!

Today, I bring you a fashion experiment - me playing around with bright and neon colors.  I like the colors together, and that it's a twist on mixing primary colors - which is a favorite combo of mine.

Blouse:  Target Petites (Available here)
Pants:  The Limited (Available here)
I've never been a huge fan of throwing on different colors for the sake of it.  As much as I like colorblocking, the trend was way overdone for my taste and I haven't been a huge fan of much of the color mixing looks I've seen.
Necklace:  The Limited (Available here)
Shoes:  Target (Available here)
Bracelet:  Target (old)
I'm on the fence about whether I would actually wear this out.  I like it better than I thought I would, but I still prefer a look that incorporates neutrals more.
What do you think?  Would you wear a colorful look like this?
