Candy Stripes

Happy Friday, everyone!!

Today's casual Friday look has a slight naval flair thanks to the military-inspired knit jacket and nautical striped scarf.
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
Jacket:  Forenza by The Limited (old)
I'm not crazy about the heels with this outfit.  I would have preferred shoes that were more causal, but outside of boots, I didn't have any casual shoes that worked with the length of these pants.
Blouse:  The Limited (Similar here)
Scarf:  The Limited
I got this shirt hemmed since the last time I wore it (see here). I think it is much more flattering now; small changes can make SO much difference!  I prefer my tops with slightly longer hem lengths, but it can be hard to find the right balance between preference for a longer length and being too long.  Shirts that are too long can make petite girls look super short as they give the appearance of the leg being cut off.
Purse:  The Limited (Similar here)
Shoes:  Target (old)
Do you alter your clothing?  What are some of the ways in which you get your clothes altered?

Eyelet & Denim

For the last casual Friday at work, I paired an orange eyelet blouse with dark denim and a black blazer.
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
Blouse:  The Limited (Available here)
This is definitely a go-to casual Friday look for me (dark jeans/blazer).  It's relaxed but still feels very professional and put-together.
Blazer:  The Limited (Similar here)
Shoes:  Target (old)
Necklace:  The Limited (Available here)
Purse:  The Limited (Available at Eloquii here)
I love this shade of orange mixed with black.  It's such a great color pop.  A Deco-inspired necklace with paler orange stones added a touch of bling to the look. This blouse definitely makes me think of spring and summer, but it's still been too cold here to be too serious about spring fashion (despite my better wishes).  It does appear that spring is on the horizon though, and I for one can hardly wait!

I am looking forward to pairing this top with white bottoms and turquoise!

Hope you all have been having a great weekend!!!!

Soft Kitty :-)

Happy Sunday Funday, everyone!!!  Hope you're all having a great day!
Blazer:  New York & Company
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
Satchel:  Target (Available in blue here)
Today, I went for a family brunch with the kids and wanted a comfortable and casual look.

I'm not much of a jeans and t-shirt gal, but when hanging out with the kids, sometimes the situation calls for it.  I like fun t-shirts, and I fell in love with this sweet "Soft Kitty" tee.

T-shirt:  Torrid (Available here)
Boots:  Target (Available here)
Cuff:  New York & Company (old)
Earrings:  Handmade (jewelry show)
If you're a fun of "Big Bang Theory" (in my top 5 of best shows ever!!), then you'll understand the reference.  Enjoy the clips below!

Denim and Tweed

This is a look from a previous casual Friday at work.
Jacket:  The Limited (Available at eloquii.com here )
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
I like mixing tweed with denim and other non-traditional fabrics.  I also like the mix of pastels with off-whites, like this mint and cream combination.
Blouse:  New York & Company (Available here)
Shoes:  Target (old)
This outfit isn't groundbreaking fashion, but it's a good way to do casual at the workplace.  Dark denim is crisp and looks professional.  A slightly unconventional blazer adds a personal twist but keeps the overall look work-appropriate.

I'm usually against any lists that tell people what they should or shouldn't wear; however, we all have to follow certain rules at work.
Tote:  New York & Company (Similar here)
Ring:  The Limited
Earrings:  Gift (handmade)
Work dress codes vary, so it's important to know yours.  Generally speaking, if your work place allows denim, it's important to keep it fresh and crisp with no holes or stains.  Denim that is super-faded or is overly trendy, such as floral, reptile print, or tie-dye prints, should probably be saved for evenings and weekends.

Do you wear denim to work?

Sportin' Stripes

Happy Friday everyone!

On today's casual Friday, I was feeling a little bit sporty.  I paired a striped tank with a colorblocked cardigan.  I then decided to mix prints by adding leopard print heels.

Cardigan:  The Limited (old) (Similar here)
Tank: The Limited (old)
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
Heels:  Target (Available here)
Bag:  The Limited (old)
I'm not in love with this outfit, but sometimes it's fun to experiment with different color and pattern combinations.  It's not a winner for me, but I did like the mix of colors and prints, so I'll just have to keep trying combinations until I get it right!

One of the great joys of developing a personal style is figuring out what works for you and what doesn't, what you like and what you don't.  That takes trial and error.

Don't be afraid to shop your closet and try new looks!

Casual Christmas Eve

Hi everyone, and Merry Christmas!!!

I have been sick with the flu and out of commission the bulk of this past week.  I'm finally starting to feel better and am back to posting!

Last night, I went to a casual family Christmas gathering, and this is what I wore:

Blouse:  Ann Taylor Petites (Available here)
Tank: The Limited
Jeans:  The Limited (Available here)
Shoes:  Target (old)
I wanted an outfit that wasn't too dressed up, but that still had some holiday flair.

I paired dark denim jeans with my green wrap blouse and gold jewelry for a bit of understated glamour.
Necklace:  Target
Bow earrings:  The Limited (Available here)
Satchel:  The Limited (Available here)
What did you wear for the holiday festivities?

Happy Holidays!
