Hello Yellow

Happy Wednesday, everyone!
Skirt: Target (Available here)
Jacket:  The Limited (Available here)
For work yesterday, I had fun styling my A-line print skirt with a black bow-front blouse and citrine yellow faux leather jacket.
Blouse:  Old Navy (old)
Necklace:  Express (old)
I love how the yellow jacket brings out the hints of yellow in the skirt.
Bag:  The Limited (old)
Earrings:  The Limited (Available here)
The bow-front blouse and hemline is conservative enough for the office, but the print of the skirt and strappy heels gives the look a more youthful edge.
Shoes:  Target (old)
I'm actually considering hemming this skirt.  Sometimes, it takes a few wears of a garment before I decide it needs alterations.  Due to the volume of this skirt, I think cutting off an inch or so would be more proportionate.

What do you think?  Do you get many clothing items altered?  How do you decide the "best" fit?

Stripes & Polka Dots

Today's work look takes a nautical inspiration.  I love playing with prints, and mixing stripes and polka dots is a fun and simple way to do it.

Skirt:  The Limited
Tank:  Forever 21+ (Available here)
The striped A-line skirt (it has pockets!) complements the coral dotted tank.  The navy blazer and pumps pull the look together and make it perfect for work.
Blazer:  The Limited (Available here)
Shoes:  Target (Available in other colors here)
Necklace:  The Limited (Available here)
I love that the color blocking on this necklace also creates a striped effect, adding to the pattern mixing of this look.

Leather and Lace

For today's look, I paired a black faux leather skirt with a lace and faux leather top.
Blouse:  Forever 21+ (Available here)
Skirt:  The Limited (Available here)
I love wearing leather and lace - such a great mix of hard and soft.
Shoes:  eBay (Available here)
Tank:  Old Navy Petites (Similar here)
Such a mix of fabrics could easily translate to a bad 80s combo, but the more modest and modern shapes of this outfit feel spot-on to me.
Clutch:  Target (Available in stores)
This look combines two of spring's major trends - graphic black and white and leather.

A is for A-line

Recently, I've been playing around with skirts in different shapes.  Today's look features an A-line skirt.
Skirt:  Target (Available here)
Blazer:  New York & Company
In my early 20s, I lived in mini skirts (the shorter the better).  About six years ago, it was all maxi skirts, all the time.  More recently, I seem to have stuck to pencil skirts. Now, I'm in the mood for more variety.
Blouse:  Old Navy Petites (Similar here)
Boots:  Payless (old)
Necklace:  Express (old)
I recently found this skirt at Target.  It has a matching bralette top, which sealed the deal for me.  The top is on back-order, but I definitely plan to rock the bare midriff look soon!

Purse:  The Limited (Similar here)
Belt:  The Limited
Yesterday, I wore this look to work.  The simple top and blazer kept the look professional, but the faux leather sleeves on the blazer, ankle boots, print of the skirt, and necklace gave the look a cool edge.

These Boots Were Made for Walkin'

Hi everyone!  Hope you all had a great day!
Skirt:  Target (Available here)
Blazer:  New York & Company
Today was still a little chilly in my area, but I finally decided it was time to skip tights!!!  I went with my knee-high boots for warmth, but it was so freeing to be able to wear a skirt without tights!!!

Tights can be fun, but I get lazy and find them to be too much work sometimes.

Tank:  Old Navy Petites (Available here)
Boots:  Payless (old)
Tote:  The Limited
I paired my boots with a brocade A-line skirt and simple tank and blazer.  The tank was a little low-cut for work, so I added the scarf for coverage and a little extra warmth during the work day.
Scarf:  Paul Smith (15+ years old)
Earrings:  The Limited (Similar here)
Removing the scarf makes the outfit perfect for transitioning to dinner or drinks after work.
Ring:  Purchased at local jewelry show
Howlite necklace:  eBay

Do you like wearing boots?  Do you prefer bare legs or tights/pantyhose?

Brocade and Lollipop Red

On a recent shopping trip, I separately fell in love with this jacquard weave skirt and cheerful red blouse.

Blouse:  Target Petites (Available here)
Skirt:  Target (Available here)
These aren't two pieces I would normally put together, but I love the color palette.  Teal and coral make me think of the beach, and has long been one of my favorite summer color combinations. I love the idea of winterizing this color combo by adding charcoal and black.  It adds a great punch to a blah winter day.
Turquoise ring:  Target (Similar here)
Tights:  The Limited
The A-line shape is universally flattering  and the tucked-in shirt helps accentuate an hourglass shape.
Blazer:  The Limited Black Collection (Similar here)
Cuff:  The Limited
Shopping tip for petites:  Many retailers carry limited to no selection of petites in stores but have more options on-line.  This blouse is one such example.  My local Target carried this blouse in misses sizes.  I loved it, but the proportions weren't right.  Thankfully, I was able to find it on-line in petites!
Boots: Payless (old)
Purse:  The Limited (old)
Turquoise earrings:  Gift (old)
