Maxi Dresses for Spring, Part One

Recently on Facebook, I asked what you would like to see on the blog.  One of the requests was maxi dresses.

So, today on the blog, I have a double-feature planned.  This morning, I'm featuring a maxi dress look that I wore out yesterday, along with a round-up of some of my previous maxi dress looks.  This evening, I will have a round-up of some of my favorite maxi dresses currently on sale in stores and on-line.
Dress:  Peter Som for Kohl's
I personally love maxi dresses for their comfort and ease.  Throwing on a moto jacket to beat the rainy and chilly April weather, this look was a no-brainer for a quick dinner out.
Jacket:  The Limited
Bracelet:  The Limited

Glasses:  Firmoo.com (Available here)
For some more maxi dress inspiration, I pulled together some of my past maxi dress looks:
Pattern Play (L to R):  Saturday Soccer Mom, Coming Up Roses, Weekend Boho
Color Blast (L to R):  Maxi-mize Your Weekend, Color and Confidence:  Green
All Black Everything (L to R):  Ready for the Beach, A Midspring's Night Dream, Easy Like Sunday Morning
I'd love to start a weekly feature where I address YOUR requests.  What trends would you like to see me feature?  What fashion or fit questions do you want answered?  Are there certain styles you'd like to see on the blog?  I'd love to hear from you!
Purse:  Target
Ring:  The Limited
Stay tuned this evening for my maxi dress round-up!

Call of the Wild

Happy Monday!
Jacket:  Peter Som for Kohl's
I don't know about you, but I'm not quite ready to be back at work.  The weekend was beautiful, and I'm longing to be outside enjoying the gorgeous and warm spring weather.

Since I had to be back at work, I figured why not post a weekend look?  It can still be nice to pretend!

Tee:  Boohoo.com (Available here)
About today's look - I wore this the weekend before last for a casual date night.
Skirt:  Forenza by The Limited
Boots:  Target
The man and I went to dinner and then had some fun playing the slots at a local casino.  I'm not much of a gambler (I prefer to buy pretty clothes with my money lol), but we actually came out a bit ahead for the night, which was fun!

This outfit was so comfortable.  Everything is a stretchy knit from the skirt to the moto jacket, so it made for such an easy look.

Purse:  New York & Company
Necklace:  Ann Taylor
I love the look of oversized tees layered over fitted or tight skirts.  The relaxed fit of the tee adds to the casualness of the outfit.
What do you like to wear for relaxed evenings out?

Moto & Graphics

Happy Tuesday!
Jacket:  Peter Som for Kohl's
Top: Ann Taylor Petites
Hope your week is going well so far!  Today, I'm featuring a recent work look.  As you know, I'm a huge fan of black and white, and I LOVE moto jackets, so a look that incorporates both is always a favorite.

Heels:  Target
This knit moto jacket is a good way to wear a moto jacket in the summer without the heaviness of faux leather.
Tote:  Target (Similar here)
I love the graphic print and cutouts of the top and the overall streamlined look of this combination.
Bangle:  The Limited (Available here)
Zip-back pants and bold accessories help add visual interest to this simple look.
Pants:  The Limited
Do you like moto jackets?  Are you a fan of graphic prints?

P.S. Tomorrow is the LAST day to nominate your favorite fashion bloggers for the St. Louis Fashion Blog Awards.  If you're so inclined, I'd really appreciate your nomination.  You can access the nomination form here, or check out the official St. Louis Fashion Week web site here for more details on what's in store!!

Laid-Back Sexy (Free the Tatas!!)

Recently, the man and I had a date night, and I wanted to feel sexy.

Dress:  Peter Som for Kohl's (Available here)
Sandals:  Target Kids
While my fiance is actually not that big of a fan of maxi dresses (he does like this one), I love them.  I think when they are low-cut and have a slit up the front like this one, they are very sexy. ;-D

I know that many larger-breasted women refuse to go sans bra, and I get it.  Wearing a bra can sometimes be more comfortable, and obviously, many situations require proper undergarments (like work, especially!).  I'm a 36DDD, so I get there may be a limitation to what I'm saying here, but don't you ever just want to set the girls free? LOL

Cuff:  Express
Bracelets:  New York & Company (Available here) and The Limited
Maxi dresses scream summer, freedom, and easy glamour to me.  Wearing a bra with this dress would mean requiring a tank or another layer to cover the bra.  While that's a great option for wearing this dress during the day or out with the kids, on a date night, I say grin and bare it!
Purse:  The Limited
A few notes on tailoring and fit:  The dress was too long when I purchased it, so I had it hemmed.  Because it is cut for a taller woman, the proportions are also off somewhat.  I plan on having the front slit raised to mid-thigh to be more reflective of intended fit.  Also, this dress fits on the larger size.  I went down a size and could have easily gone down one size more on the bottom half.

I love that even with the low neckline and somewhat high slit, the dress still feels classy and not too over-the-top.
What do you like to wear on a sexy date night?  Do you ever go braless?

J'Adore Denim and Stripes

Hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!  My weekend has been fairly uneventful, which is just fine by me!!  :-)

On Friday, I was off of work, and the man and I attended a reading awards ceremony for two of our daughters.  The ceremony was in the elementary school gymnasium, so it was decidedly casual, but I also wanted a look with some polish.

Jeans:  The Limited Petites
Heels:  Target (old) (Similar here)
I was in a rush to get ready, so for me this outfit was a quick and easy look.  I knew that I wanted to wear my new "J'Adorable" tee by Peter Som for Kohl's.  The rest of the outfit came together fast - first the jeans, then the heels, then the blazer for a bit of warmth on the chilly day.
Tee:  Peter Som for Kohl's (Available here)
Silver bracelets and cuffs, a bold silver ring, and my fun pop art tote complete the look.
Bracelets and cuff (left arm):  The Limited
Ring:  Earthbound Trading Company
I did not wear any make-up during the event, and I tend to think that when rested, I look very young without make-up.  Is it okay that a friend of my ten year old step-daughter thought that I looked more like her sister than her stepmom?   LOL
When you're very short and have childlike facial features (rounded cheeks, for example), people tend to think you are younger than you are.  It used to bother me a lot as a kid and teenager.

As an adult, looking young affects how people people see you - some doubt your competence or are less likely to value your contributions because they don't take you as seriously.  Looking young has often felt like more of a burden to me than a benefit.

Maybe because of this, I've never had a problem with aging.  As I'm starting to have more grey hairs and wrinkles, looking young doesn't seem quite as bad, but I plan to happily age gracefully.  :-)

Tote:  Ruben & Isabel Toledo for Lane Bryant
Blazer:  The Limited Black Collection (Similar here)
Have you ever been confused as younger or older than you are?  How did it make you feel?

Are you a fan of horizontal stripes?

Citrus With Bite

This spring, I'm really obsessed with wearing white.  As much as I love wearing black, white is a perfect alternative for warmer weather.
Jacket:  Peter Som for Kohl's (Available here)
Jeans:  The Limited (Similar here)
Tank:  Peter Som for Kohl's (Available here)
For today's look, I paired my white jeans from last year with a pineapple print tank and moto jacket that I recently bought from Peter Som's line for Kohl's.

You've already seen the jacket on the blog a few times - it is quickly becoming a new favorite!!

Booties:  Target (Available here)
I paired the look with my beige booties to maintain a neutral line.

For additional pops of color, I added in citrus-hued bracelets and a cute citron clutch that looks a bit like a lemon wedge.
Clutch:  The Limited (Available here)
Bracelets:  The Limited, Target, Express
I love the summer citrus theme for warm weather, and I think the white serves as a perfect canvas for the bright colors and helps keep the look from being costumey.
Necklace:  The Limited (Similar here)
Would you wear an all-white look?  Would you wear a citrus print?

I added gold metal accessories to play up the hardware on the jacket and the gold sole of the booties.
